Balmoral Tanks names Paul Edwards as Managing Director
Balmoral Tanks has appointed Paul Edwards as Managing Director following the retirement of Allan Joyce after 31 years with the company.
Edwards joins the UK tank manufacturer from Jonesco Group, where he was group Managing Director. He brings more than 30 years of experience in manufacturing and industrial operations, including senior roles at Michelin, Fenner Precision Polymers and James Dawsons and Sons.
He will assume full responsibility in May, with Joyce remaining until the end of April to support the handover. The leadership change comes as Balmoral Tanks expands its work in data centre water storage, fire water storage, aquaculture, commercial fish storage and anaerobic digestion infrastructure.
Based in Thurnscoe, Balmoral Tanks manufactures bulk liquid storage systems for sectors including water, wastewater treatment and firefighting. It has also been growing its presence in overseas markets, including Europe and the Americas.
Leadership Change
Joyce led Balmoral Tanks for more than three decades, overseeing a period of growth in manufacturing capacity and market reach. He was recently awarded the Offshore Achievement Award's Significant Contribution Award.
His departure marks the end of a long tenure during which the company strengthened its position in industrial storage markets and expanded its international footprint. The board presented Edwards' appointment as part of the next phase in its ongoing five-year plan.
Edwards said: "Allan has built something very special over the past three decades, and I am honoured to have the opportunity to build on that legacy. What stands out to me is Balmoral Tanks' commitment to service-led delivery, consistent quality and the people behind the product. That combination is powerful. I'm looking forward to working closely with the team as we continue to strengthen operational performance and deliver for customers around the world."
Succession Plan
The transition was announced by Balmoral Group, the parent company of Balmoral Tanks. Sir Jim Milne, chairman of Balmoral Group, paid tribute to Joyce's role in shaping the business.
"Allan's contribution to Balmoral Tanks over the past 31 years cannot be overstated. He has been at the heart of the business for more than three decades and a true member of the Balmoral family. His leadership, integrity and quiet determination have shaped not only the growth of the company but the culture and values we are so proud of today. Allan has earned the respect and friendship of colleagues across the Group, and his influence will be felt for many years to come. On behalf of the Board, I would like to offer our heartfelt thanks for his extraordinary commitment and the legacy he leaves behind," Milne said.
He also explained why the group selected Edwards for the role.
"We are equally delighted to welcome Paul Edwards to Balmoral Tanks. His extensive manufacturing background, commercial acumen and proven ability to align people, process and performance make him exceptionally well placed to lead the business into its next phase," Milne said.
Market Focus
The appointment comes as demand for specialist water storage rises across parts of the infrastructure market, particularly in data centres, where operators need large-scale water systems for cooling and fire protection. Balmoral Tanks has identified this as a key growth area alongside aquaculture and anaerobic digestion.
The business has supplied projects across Europe and is expanding in North and Latin America, supported by a US manufacturing base within the wider group. That international push increases the importance of operational leadership and supply chain management as manufacturers respond to varying customer requirements across regions and sectors.
According to the company, Edwards' background includes responsibility for multi-site manufacturing operations and commercial oversight. Those areas are likely to be central as Balmoral Tanks balances expansion into newer end markets with its established business in water and wastewater storage.
The handover closes a long chapter under Joyce while bringing in a leader with experience in industrial manufacturing businesses operating across multiple geographies. Joyce will remain until the end of April to support the transition before Edwards takes full responsibility in May.
