IN2 Engineering has acquired London-based YES Engineering, expanding the Irish firm's presence in the UK and Europe.

The deal creates a combined consultancy of more than 100 people. The enlarged group adds YES Engineering's commercial-sector work and international client base to IN2's mechanical, electrical, energy and sustainability practice.

IN2, which is based in Ireland, has been expanding beyond its home market. The transaction forms part of a wider strategy that combines acquisitions with organic growth to increase revenues and extend its reach in Europe.

YES Engineering gives IN2 a larger base in London, while the YES team gains access to IN2's wider engineering resources. These include specialist capabilities in computational fluid dynamics analysis, building physics, planning consultancy, sustainability and whole-life carbon.

Growth areas

Both firms see rising demand in digital infrastructure and lower-carbon building projects. A key opportunity for the combined business lies in engineering work linked to data centres, as well as the broader shift towards decarbonised buildings and infrastructure.

IN2 has already worked on several UK schemes, including a 30MW refurbishment for a data centre facility in West London, a district heating and decarbonisation project in Bradford known as 1Energy, and a county-wide decarbonisation programme in Norfolk.

YES Engineering has also worked across multiple international markets. IN2 said the London firm has completed projects in the UK and Europe, including in Luxembourg, Vienna and Zurich for a major commercial multinational, as well as other assignments in 22 countries across three continents.

The combined group aims to build on IN2's existing record in hyperscale data centre work in London, Amsterdam and Frankfurt. It also brings relationships with major operators and contracting partners, along with in-house modelling, mechanical and electrical design, and on-site delivery management.

International push

Barry Flynn, Chief Executive Officer of IN2, outlined the company's broader expansion plans. IN2 already operates in Berlin and is preparing to expand further into the data centre, energy and infrastructure sectors in Spain and Portugal.

Flynn said: "The acquisition is a core part of IN2's international growth strategy, combining targeted acquisitions with organic expansion. Beyond Ireland and the UK, IN2 operates in Berlin and is preparing for further strategic expansion into the data centre, energy and infrastructure sectors in Spain and Portugal, planned for 2027."

The transaction also reflects rising demand for engineering specialists that can work across borders on larger projects. Companies in the sector face growing requirements from clients in commercial property, energy systems and data infrastructure, particularly where projects involve decarbonisation targets and technically complex building services.

Greg Parker, Director at YES Engineering, said the rationale for the deal was tied to those changing client needs.

Parker said: "Clients are seeking to deliver larger and more technically complex programmes across multiple markets. Combining the expertise and experience of YES Engineering with IN2 makes perfect sense, as we can present stronger multidisciplinary teams that can support projects internationally and provide valuable continuity from early-stage engineering and design through to delivery."
